Privacy Policy

BiasScope analyzes short political videos for bias and factual accuracy. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to run the service, we do not sell your data, and the app contains no advertising or third-party tracking.

What we collect

• Account details — your email address, an optional display name, your date of birth (asked at sign-up so we can enforce our minimum age), and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the account identifier they share with us. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes; Apple and Google sign-in never give us your password.
• Content you submit — the video links you paste and the video files we retrieve from them so the analysis can run. Video files are stored until you delete your account.
• Analysis results — the transcript, bias assessment, extracted claims, and fact-check results we generate for each video, kept so you can revisit your history and saved analyses.
• Feedback — ratings and comments you choose to send about an analysis.
• Usage records — when you ran analyses and the processing cost of each, used to enforce plan limits and show you your own usage stats.
• Subscription details — if you subscribe, which plan you are on, when your current paid subscription began, and the purchase events our subscription provider sends us (purchase, renewal, plan change, cancellation, expiration). Your payment is processed by Apple: we never see or store your card number, billing address, or any other payment details.
• Service logs — standard technical logs (timestamps, request outcomes, errors) used to operate, secure, and debug the service.

We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, or browsing history. We do not use advertising or analytics SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

How we use your data

We use your data to provide the service: to run the analyses you request, show your history and stats, apply the usage allowance that comes with your plan, respond to your feedback, and keep the service reliable and secure. Your date of birth is used only to check that you meet our minimum age. We also review analysis quality in aggregate to improve our prompts and scoring. We do not sell your personal data or share it with advertisers.

To avoid reprocessing, a recent analysis of the same public video link may be reused for other users who submit that link. Reused results contain only the video analysis itself — never your account details.

Who we share data with

We share data with these processors only as needed to deliver the service:

• Anthropic — bias scoring and claim extraction
• Google — video analysis (Gemini) and fact-check search (Fact Check Tools)
• Tavily — web search used for fact-checking
• Render — application hosting
• Neon — database hosting
• Cloudflare R2 — video file storage
• RevenueCat — subscription management; receives your BiasScope account identifier so a purchase can be matched to your account
• Apple — App Store payment processing and subscription status

Each provider receives only what its part of the service requires. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety and integrity of the service.

Retention and deletion

You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete account). Your account details, history, saved analyses, feedback, and subscription record are removed immediately, and any stored video files are deleted within 30 days.

If you have a paid subscription, cancel it before deleting your account. Subscriptions are managed by the App Store, not by us, so deleting your BiasScope account does not cancel your subscription or stop future charges. Cancel in the app (Profile → Manage subscription) or in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your device. Apple and RevenueCat keep their own records of your purchases under their own policies; deleting your BiasScope account does not erase those.

If you have trouble with any of this, contact us and we'll take care of it.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, passwords are stored as salted hashes, and access to production systems is limited to what operating the service requires.

Children

BiasScope is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. We ask for your date of birth at sign-up and do not create accounts for anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

You can view and update your email and display name in the app, and delete your account and data in the app. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data — email us and we will honor reasonable requests.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with an updated effective date, and flag material changes in the app.
